167 N Main Street Fredericktown, Ohio has been a place of business since 1923. The auditor’s site recording states 1928, but when doing some demo in the upstairs we discovered 1923 etched in a piece of wood from Wiggins Electric. The building housed a Sohio Gas Station, car dealership, Scarbrough Hardware Store, an artist from Key West, and most recently a retail store called Aunt Ruth’s Attic. The Lindeman family purchased the building in 2021 and began a remodel of the almost 100-year-old building. The carriage elevator that once hauled cars to the second floor to be assembled had to be taken out of commission during the renovation for the building to pass state code inspections. Even though the elevator is not hauling cars up and down, you can step back in time with us by viewing all the original gears and elevator platform. The carriage elevator has become a showcase piece that features memorabilia from each of the business entities that once occupied the building. For more historical information about the Village of Fredericktown we invite you to visit the Fredericktown Area Historical Society located at 33 East College Street.
